WILLIAM HUGHES, 82, CONVICTED PAEDOPHILE, CLAIMS HE WAS DRUGGED AND FLOWN TO THE PHILIPPINES
An 82-year-old convicted sex offender asserted that he was drugged in Amsterdam and subsequently flown to Abu Dhabi, before traveling on to Manila in the Philippines.William Hughes accepted that he failed to inform police about his international travel plans in April of the previous year, despite this requirement being part of his obligations on the sex offenders' register, as outlined by Hull Crown Court.
Residing on Dayton Road in west Hull, Hughes also admitted to possessing extreme pornography on April 9, 2024.
It was noted that he had a prior conviction related to inciting sexual activity with a child aged between 13 and 17.
Hughes left the country prior to his court appearance, was convicted in his absence, and later returned to the UK where authorities detained him at Manchester Airport.
His mobile phones contained images of a naked young girl and sexually explicit conversations indicating an interest in girls aged 12.
Hughes claimed he was meant to undertake a War Graves Memorial Tour in the Netherlands but was allegedly drugged, recalling only being in a wheelchair surrounded by individuals in white coats.
He was sentenced to a three-year suspended imprisonment, fined £500, and compelled to follow a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
Additionally, he will remain on the sex offenders' register permanently and pay a victim surcharge of £187.
