OXFORD MAN JAILED FOR STALKING EX AND SENDING THOUSANDS OF MESSAGES
A man who repeatedly harassed a woman despite multiple warnings has been sentenced to three years behind bars and given a lifetime restraining order.
William Griffiths, a 44-year-old resident of Cheyne Lane, Bampton, pleaded guilty to charges of stalking that caused fear of violence or serious alarm and distress in Oxford Crown Court.
It was revealed that from August 2021 until April 2023, Griffiths sent his former partner, Deborah Elliot, an astonishing 22,000 messages, alongside 700 voice notes and phone calls.
His communications included sexually explicit images and offensive language, even after being told 42 times to cease contact.
The case was described as ‘egregious’ due to Griffiths’ persistent effort to reach Ms.
Elliot after their relationship ended, including 1,500 texts sent during her holiday in Turkey.
Thames Valley Police reaffirmed their position that stalking and intimidation are not tolerated in the area.
The sentencing was originally scheduled two months earlier but was delayed due to legal scheduling conflicts.
The severity of Griffiths’ actions, especially given the ongoing risk to his victim, led the court to impose a significant sentence along with a restraining order, underscoring the seriousness of the case.
