MAN JAILED FOR MULTIPLE CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
A man identified as Andrew Grant, residing on Queen Street in Bampton, Oxfordshire, has been handed a significant prison sentence after being convicted of multiple child sexual offences.The sentencing took place during a hearing at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, November 29, where Grant received a term of 54 months, which is equivalent to four and a half years behind bars.
Grant, aged 58, was found guilty of engaging in inappropriate and illegal attempts to communicate sexually with a minor.
The court heard that he had tried to initiate sexual conversations with a girl under the age of 16, specifically a 14-year-old, in the town of Eynsham.
These attempts occurred over a period stretching from November 22, 2022, to February 18, 2023.
The allegations also included that Grant had made efforts to meet the girl in person, with plans to do so at Oxford Train Station, after a period of grooming that involved establishing a relationship online or through other means.
In addition to the grooming and communication charges, Grant was accused of arranging or facilitating the commission of a sexual activity with a child during the same timeframe in Eynsham.
These actions were part of a broader pattern of grooming and predatory behaviour that the court found proven.
Furthermore, Grant faced charges related to his driving conduct.
On February 18 of the previous year, he was stopped in a Nissan X Trail on Park End Street, Oxford, and at Oxford Train Station.
During this incident, he was found to be driving without third-party insurance, a serious traffic violation.
As a consequence, he was penalized with six points added to his driving license, which could impact his driving privileges.
In addition to his prison sentence, Andrew Grant was subjected to several other legal restrictions.
He was issued a sexual harm prevention order, which is intended to prevent him from engaging in further harmful behaviour, and he was placed on the sex offender register indefinitely, meaning his details will remain on record for the foreseeable future.
Moreover, Grant was permanently barred from working with children or vulnerable adults, a measure designed to protect the community from potential future harm.
These combined penalties reflect the severity of his offences and the court’s commitment to safeguarding minors and vulnerable individuals from predatory behaviour.
