BATHGATE MAN ADMITS TO ANIMAL CRUELTY AND ASSAULT CHARGES
William Gillies, aged 41 from Bathgate, has admitted to leaving his dog to suffer and die from malnourishment and neglect. The Staffordshire bull terrier was discovered on 3 September at a roundabout on Blackburn Road, Bathgate, with bones visible through its skin, and was so undernourished that it was euthanized the following day.
Gillies pleaded guilty before Livingston Sheriff Court to two animal cruelty charges, specifically causing the animal suffering by act or omission and failing to provide adequate food, water, or veterinary care despite knowing the animal's distress.
In addition to animal cruelty, Gillies also admitted assaulting his former partner, Kerry Anne Reynolds, by spitting on her at her home in Bathgate on 14 October.
Court proceedings included a request for background reports, and Sheriff John MacVicar imposed bail conditions, including a ban from approaching his ex-partner or visiting her residence.
Sentencing has been deferred to next month.
