DUNDEE DOMESTIC ABUSER CAUGHT HIDING IN CUPBOARD AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK

William Ferguson, aged 47, committed a domestic assault on his partner on July 16, 2021, after accusing her of infidelity with a friend.

During the incident, he lifted her off the ground and struck her on the body before forcing her onto the bed and straddling her, verbally threatening her with phrases like "Get on this bed or I will do you." Neighbours reported hearing banging, shouting, and screaming at 6:30 am.

Police arrived and took the victim to Ninewells Hospital, although she did not need treatment.

Ferguson was subsequently charged and appeared in private court proceedings, after which he was released on bail with strict conditions including a curfew and orders to stay away from his victim's home.

Despite these conditions, Ferguson answered the door at his victim’s flat when police attended, and when he realized it was officers, he tried to hide behind coats in a hallway cupboard, an attempt described as "futile." Last week, Ferguson pleaded guilty to the domestic assault and breaching bail.

The prosecution sought a non-harassment order, though the victim did not support this.

Ferguson's lawyer requested a Caledonian men’s domestic abuse programme assessment before sentencing.

Ferguson has a criminal record that includes violence, dishonesty, and threatening or abusive behaviour.

The sheriff deferred sentencing to August 30 and ordered additional reports to consider before a final judgment.
