DUNDEE PAEDOPHILE FOUND GUILTY AFTER 13-MINUTE JURY DELIBERATION
William Cox is currently behind bars awaiting sentencing after a jury took just 13 minutes to find him guilty of possessing indecent images of children.Cox, aged 68, who was previously on the sex offenders register for life, had his phone sent for forensic analysis following police suspicions.
Detectives discovered he had downloaded 170 distressing photographs over a five-day period before the police check.
Cox claimed he was on the Russian website to research the Ukraine war, but the court found his explanation unconvincing.
The police found evidence of 170 images depicting abuse of children aged between four and 12, with 74 considered the most explicit.
Cox denied possession of the images, but the court heard he had visited a website from Russia the same day police visited, contrary to prior warnings not to do so.
The jury unanimously convicted him of making indecent images of children between August 5 and 10, 2023.
He is set to be sentenced next month and has been placed on the sex offenders register again.
Cox's previous offenses include a 2016 jail term for downloading child abuse material from a Dundee library, and a prior arrest in 2015 for downloading a large cache of child abuse images, after which he received an extended custodial sentence.
