WANDSWORTH MAN SENT TO MENTAL HOSPITAL AFTER SLITTING MOTHER’S THROAT
William ‘Buck’ Smith, a 50-year-old man from Atheldene Road, Earlsfield, was involved in a serious domestic violence event.
He assaulted his mother with a saucepan and later slashed her throat.
He contacted police on December 27 of the previous year, confessing to the killing of Dolores Smith, an 87-year-old woman.
Police found her lying on the kitchen floor, bloodied and surrounded by the utensils involved in the attack, including a saucepan and a knife, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness from the neighborhood mentioned hearing shouting that morning and described the incident as still somewhat mysterious to locals.
Smith denied charges of murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
