JAN WOZINSKI EARLSFIELD SCIENTIST ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD PORN CONVICTION IN KINGSTON
In a case that has shocked the local community of Earlsfield, Jan Wozinski, a 62-year-old scientist residing on Garratt Lane, narrowly avoided a prison sentence after admitting to possessing a significant collection of indecent images of children. The incident came to light during proceedings at Kingston Crown Court in December 2009, revealing the disturbing extent of his online activities.Wozinski was found to have stored a total of 414 indecent images of minors on his personal computer, alongside an additional 600 images classified as 'extreme porn.' The court was informed that Wozinski’s interests extended into highly disturbing areas, including bestiality pornography. Investigations uncovered that he accessed Russian websites specifically searching for images of adolescent girls, which he then viewed in private.
The authorities acted swiftly after colleagues at Corus UK, a company based in central London’s Millbank, discovered the internet archive on Wozinski’s work computer and promptly contacted law enforcement. On May 14, police raided his residence, located in Earlsfield, and seized electronic devices for forensic analysis.
During the court hearing, Wozinski’s legal representative, Isabella Forshall, explained that her client was experiencing personal difficulties at the time, having recently gone through a second marriage breakdown. Forshall stated, “Mr Wozinski is candid about his motives, saying that he was confused by his own feelings and ashamed about what he’d done.” She further emphasized that Wozinski did not intentionally build a library of such images; rather, the computer’s automatic functions had inadvertently compiled the collection as he browsed the internet.
Following the incident, Wozinski was dismissed from his position at Corus UK. Additionally, police confiscated his passport, effectively preventing him from seeking employment opportunities in the Middle East. On November 11, he pleaded guilty to six counts of making indecent images of children and one count of owning such images at levels one through four. He also admitted to owning extreme pornography.
In sentencing, Judge Campbell opted for a community order instead of immediate imprisonment, citing the potential benefits of rehabilitation. The judge remarked, “Although what I’m doing may seem to be a lenient course to take, it will in effect mean you are under the control not just of the probation service but also of the court for the next three years.”
As part of the sentence, Wozinski was placed under a three-year supervision order, which requires him to participate in a group sex offenders’ rehabilitation program. He is also prohibited from accessing chatrooms for ten years and from storing images of individuals under 18 on any electronic device. His hard drive will be destroyed, and he has been ordered to register as a sex offender for the next five years. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of his offenses, while also emphasizing the importance of monitoring and rehabilitation in such cases.
