WILLIAM BROWN FROM KINTORE CONVICTED OF DECADES-LONG SEXUAL ABUSE IN ABERDEEN
William Brown, an elderly man residing in Kintore, has been found guilty of a prolonged and systematic campaign of sexual abuse targeting four young boys over a span of more than forty years. The conviction was delivered by a jury composed of six men and nine women at Aberdeen High Court, where Brown, aged 77, faced multiple serious charges. These included two counts of lewd and libidinous behavior, one charge of indecent assault, and two counts of engaging in unnatural carnal acts with his victims.Throughout the trial, all four victims, who are now adults, bravely recounted the years of suffering they endured in silence. They revealed that feelings of shame and fear had kept them from speaking out for many years. One of the victims shared that it was only after the Jimmy Savile scandal became public knowledge that he felt compelled to come forward. He explained, “Once it came out about Jimmy Savile I thought, the person who abused me is still alive so why should he get away with it?”
The abuse took place inside Brown’s flat in Kintore, a detail that added to the trauma experienced by the victims. The repercussions of Brown’s actions have been devastating, with the victims describing how their lives were profoundly affected. Many struggled with criminal behavior and turned to drug addiction as they tried to cope with the emotional scars left by the abuse.
Throughout the trial, Brown maintained his innocence, denying all allegations made against him. Despite his denials, the court’s verdict was clear, delivering a measure of justice for the victims. Lord Burns, presiding over the case, ordered Brown to be placed on the sex offenders register and remanded him in custody pending sentencing.
Brown’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for next month at the High Court in Edinburgh, where the full extent of his punishment will be determined.
