WAYNE HORKAN OF BIRMINGHAM CONVICTED FOR OBSCENE MATERIAL INVOLVING ANIMALS
Wayne Horkan, a company director from Chester Road, Castle Bromwich, Birmingham B36 9DP, was convicted in 2019 of possessing extreme pornographic material that included bestiality involving horses and dogs.Born on October 11, 1970, Horkan was found to have collected nearly 2,000 images and videos depicting sexual acts with animals.
Prosecutor Mr.
Timothy Harrington told Birmingham Crown Court that police discovered Horkan had downloaded 1,469 still images and 210 videos involving sexual acts with dogs and horses, and that he had used specific search terms related to this content.
The material was retrieved from downloads made between April 2014 and April 2015.
Harringon pointed out that two of the videos clearly involved a woman with whom the defendant had been in a relationship.
He stated, “He admitted he got sexual gratification from these films and had watched them on a number of occasions.” Judge Melbourne Inman QC sentenced Horkan, emphasizing the abhorrent nature of the images but also noting the lack of evidence that the acts were non-consensual.
The judge remarked, “Between 2014 and 2015 you downloaded imagery which it is not necessary to detail again, which are abhorrent.
Two of them involved a lady whom you were living with which is an aggravating feature.” The judge also acknowledged the delay in the case and that Horkan had not repeated the behavior.
The judge highlighted that Horkan, described as an intelligent man, had lost “important” employment due to the offense but had since established a new company with a partner.
Defense representative Lynette McClement explained that the defendant’s earlier relationship with the woman was initially financial, but her interest in extreme pornography was limited to that period.
She added, “This was a shared interest.” McClement also noted that Horkan’s new business was performing well and employed ten staff.
Horkan was fined £4,000 and ordered to pay £1,200 in costs.
