WAYNE FINCH FROM CONISBROUGH AND WARMSWORTH JAILED FOR SEX OFFENSES AT FISHING POND
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Conisbrough and Warmsworth, Wayne Finch, a 47-year-old man, has been sentenced to prison for heinous sexual offenses committed at a secluded fishing pond. The incident, which took place at Burcroft Fishing Pond, located off Low Road in Conisbrough, involved the exploitation and assault of young girls, prompting a serious police investigation and a subsequent court trial.Detectives have issued an urgent appeal for any additional victims who may have encountered Finch to come forward. Authorities believe that Finch, who has a troubling history of sexual offenses against minors, may have molested multiple young girls in the Conisbrough area, raising concerns about the extent of his predatory behavior. The community has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to Finch or similar cases.
During the court proceedings at Doncaster Crown Court, it was revealed that Finch had previously served time for a series of sexual assaults on children, including an incident where he threatened a girl with a knife. The court heard that Finch had befriended and sexually assaulted two girls, aged nine and ten, at the fishing pond. The assaults included indecent exposure on multiple occasions and inappropriate touching. Prosecutor Tina Dempster detailed that Finch had offered to pay one of the girls £10 in exchange for touching her breasts, highlighting the manipulative nature of his crimes.
Further allegations revealed that in September of the same year, Finch had inappropriately touched a nine-year-old girl he had been fishing with. Court documents stated that he performed sex acts in front of her and had bought her sweets, actions that the victims bravely disclosed to authorities. Following these disclosures, Finch was arrested, and a search of his home in Ash Dale Road, Warmsworth, uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent images and videos of children. Police found a total of 2,837 indecent photographs and 159 video clips, including nine classified at the most severe level of explicit content.
Finch pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, sexual assault of a child under 13, and possessing a significant amount of indecent images. His criminal history also includes a six-year prison sentence handed down in 1998 for a series of indecent assaults on children under 14, one of which involved threatening a girl with a knife.
Judge Jacqueline Davies, presiding over the case, expressed her serious concern about Finch’s dangerousness. She stated, “In my opinion, you pose a significant risk to the public. You are a dangerous man.” The judge ordered that Finch must serve a minimum of 33 months before being eligible for parole, emphasizing the need to protect society from further harm.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Julie Ward commented on the case, stating, “Finch gained the trust of two young girls by befriending them, but then took complete advantage of that trust by subjecting them both to sexual assaults on more than one occasion and committing sexual acts in their presence. We were able to locate and arrest Finch and prevent him from committing any further offences against young girls due to the early disclosure of the incidents.”
She also urged anyone who might have information about Finch’s activities or other potential victims to come forward. Authorities are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have encountered Finch or been approached by him in the past. Tips can be reported by calling police on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555111, quoting incident A/87801/2011.
