WASEE CHOWDHURY SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL OFFENCES IN NEWHAM
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Newham, Wasee Chowdhury, aged 25, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after being convicted of a series of serious sexual offences, including the heinous act of raping a teenage girl. The incident took place in March 2016, when Chowdhury, a resident of Dragonfly Close in Newham, used the popular messaging app WhatsApp to lure a 16-year-old girl into a secluded car park.According to court proceedings at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Chowdhury approached the girl with an enticing offer, promising her a sum of £1,000 in exchange for looking after some money for him. Trusting his words, the young girl followed him to the designated location in Newham, unaware of his true intentions. Once they were alone in the car park, Chowdhury forcibly took her into a gas meter room where he committed the assault, raping her in a brutal and predatory act.
Following his arrest on March 14, police officers conducted a thorough analysis of Chowdhury’s mobile phone. The investigation uncovered disturbing evidence that linked him to grooming two other underage girls, both under the age of 16, through Facebook messages. Further examination revealed images of Chowdhury engaging in sexual activities with two children, which significantly contributed to his conviction.
Chowdhury faced multiple charges, including rape, taking indecent images of children, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He pleaded guilty to these offences, and the court found him guilty of a string of sexual crimes. On the day of sentencing, he was formally convicted of rape, two counts of taking indecent images, and two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
As part of his sentence, Chowdhury will be required to serve at least two-thirds of his prison term before being eligible for parole. Additionally, he will be registered as a sex offender for life, a measure that aims to monitor and restrict his future interactions. The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which explicitly prohibits him from having any contact with females under the age of 18 unless he has explicit permission from their parent or guardian. This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable minors from predators in the Newham area.
