POLICE OFFICER (EX-DETECTIVE INSPECTOR) WARREN ARTER COMMITS SUICIDE AFTER MISCONDUCT CHARGES
DECEASED Ex-Detective Inspector Warren Arter, aged 54, was found dead in his prison cell in London, just two days after he appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with misconduct in public office. He was suspected of taking his own life at HMP Wandsworth on July 12 of the previous year.
The case surrounding his death is intertwined with the tragic events involving his wife, Rebekah Arter, who was discovered dead in a blood-soaked hotel room in Barbados.
An inquest revealed that Rebekah's death was not regarded as a homicide, as the Barbados pathologist found no evidence of violence, though her hair samples indicated occasional cocaine use.
Arter's wife, Rebekah, 47, was found dead in June 2024, leading to an investigation into allegations of coercive control, which were ongoing at that time.
Warren Arter had a long history of misconduct, including drug abuse and participating in orgies, culminating in his dismissal in 2023 following a disciplinary tribunal that detailed misconduct spanning over 13 years.
His son, Elliot Usher, recounted that he initially felt 'quite secure' around Warren because he was a police officer, but later described his behavior as 'disgusting,' involving controlling and abusive actions towards his mother.
Warren Arter’s death, considered a likely suicide, occurred shortly after he faced charges of misconduct, marking a tragic end to a career marred by systemic failings and misconduct."
