BRADFORD FATHER JAILED FOR BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER AND TRYING TO CONTACT HIS CHILD
A Bradford man, Waqas Hussain, aged 37 and living on Gladstone Street, received a prison sentence after breaching a restraining order less than a day after it was granted. The court established the order on September 15 of the previous year, yet Hussain continued to breach it over the following three months.
He also involved a school-aged child in attempts to contact his eight-year-old son.
Bradford Crown Court was told that Hussain contacted his ex-wife the day after the order was issued and made continued efforts to breach it for three months.
Judge Johnathan Rose stated that Hussain, despite the restraining order meant to last until September 2026, was 'determined' to ignore it and said, “Having been acquitted of matters you were made the subject of a restraining order to last until September 2026, you breached that order the very next day.” The court revealed that Hussain’s violations included visiting his son’s school, following him by car, and trying to 'draw in' an adult using another schoolchild.
Initially, Hussain was detained and released on bail but breached the order again in November.
The judge emphasized that the children involved are 'not to be used as weapons' and pointed out his previous convictions, which included battery against his former wife and breaches of non-molestation and restraining orders.
Despite admitting guilt at various points, Hussain received a sentence of four years and two months, with the possibility of serving up to half before release on licence.
The case also considered Hussain’s criminal past, with the court suggesting that avoiding further trouble might have resulted in a less severe, non-custodial sentence.
