VIRGINIA NELSON, BRAMPTON PUPPY FARMER, BANNED FROM ANIMAL DEALING UNTIL 2026

Virginia Nelson, also known by her alias Virginia Mahon, a resident of Brampton, has been convicted in 2023 of serious offences related to animal welfare and fraudulent activities involving unlicensed breeding practices. Born on October 30, 1978, Nelson’s actions have drawn significant legal scrutiny, leading to her being disqualified from engaging in any dealings involving animals until November 2026.

Her criminal record includes admitting to operating without the necessary licenses required for selling animals as pets in a commercial capacity. This breach of licensing laws was uncovered through a series of investigations initiated in August 2022, which were triggered by reports from concerned buyers.

The first report involved the sale of a six-year-old dog that was falsely advertised as being only one year old. The buyer expressed concern that the dog was suffering from ear and skin infections, which, according to veterinary assessments, could have been prevented with prompt medical treatment. This case highlighted the potential for unnecessary suffering inflicted upon animals due to neglect or dishonesty.

Further investigations revealed another troubling incident where Nelson sold a five-week-old puppy. The puppy was far too young to be separated from its mother and had not received the necessary vaccinations, breaching the regulations set out by Lucy’s Law. This legislation explicitly prohibits the sale of animals without a proper license, aiming to prevent the sale of very young or unwell animals and to promote responsible breeding practices.

As a result of her actions, Nelson faced a series of penalties. She was fined £140, ordered to pay £2,500 in legal costs, and subjected to a surcharge of £56. Additionally, she received a three-year ban from dealing in animals, which will remain in effect until November 2026. Her known address is listed as 5 Gelt Rise, Brampton CA8 1PN, in the Cumbria area, where her activities have come under scrutiny.

These legal actions underscore the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat illegal puppy farming and protect animal welfare in the region.
