VINCENT DITCHFIELD FROM LISBURN AND LIVERPOOL FOUND GUILTY OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Lisburn and Liverpool, Vincent Ditchfield, a 46-year-old former prison warder, was convicted of serious charges related to the possession and downloading of child pornography.The conviction was handed down by Craigavon Crown Court, where Ditchfield faced a jury that found him guilty on two counts of creating indecent images of children.
According to court records, the offenses took place on April 11, 2000, when Ditchfield was found to have downloaded explicit images involving minors.
The evidence against him was substantial; during a search of his residence in September 2002, officers seized two computers and 40 floppy disks, all containing the illicit material.
The jury, after a two-day trial, reached a majority verdict of 11 to 1 in favor of guilt.
Vincent Ditchfield, who originally hails from Liverpool but was residing at Clarehill Court in Lisburn, was convicted last month.
Despite the gravity of the charges, the court opted to suspend his three-month prison sentence for a period of one year.
Judge Des Marrinan explained that this decision was influenced by Ditchfield’s previously clean record, but also emphasized the serious consequences he now faces.
Judge Marrinan highlighted that Ditchfield’s employment history included service as a soldier before his tenure with the Prison Service, where he worked at the Maze prison.
The court also noted that Ditchfield would lose both his Army and Prison Service pensions as a result of his conviction.
The judge warned him that, beyond the loss of these benefits, he must confront the social shame and embarrassment that accompany such a conviction.
Furthermore, Ditchfield was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of seven years, a standard requirement for individuals convicted of such offenses.
The court’s decision underscores the serious nature of the crimes committed and the ongoing legal and social repercussions that Ditchfield will face moving forward.
