STALKER FOUND GUILTY OF MURDERING EX-GIRLFRIEND AT BUS STOP
A man named Vikramgit Singh was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Gemma Dorman. The incident occurred outside a Thai restaurant in Lavender Hill, London, in July 2008.
Singh, who was waiting for Dorman, attacked her with a 7-inch kitchen knife at a bus shelter during a frenzied assault while she was crying out for help, according to court reports.
Dorman had previously expressed fears of being stalked by Singh, who had been harassing her with hundreds of text messages and had a history of obsession, including paying for a tattoo with her name and sending her love letters.
Singh, an illegal immigrant from India, claimed he had given her a total of £260,000 in gifts and money, and that they had planned to marry and set up a future together, but he alleged she dumped him when his money ran out.
On the day of the attack, Singh admitted to stabbing her but claimed he could not remember doing so.
He denied murder, claiming provocation and diminished responsibility, but the jury rejected his defense, convicting him of murder by an 11-1 majority.
Singh now faces a life sentence for his crime.
