In Sheffield, a woman was violently assaulted when she was gagged with tape and raped at her home, while a knife was used to threaten her.The attacker, Vibhor Garg, 37 years old, carried out the assault in 2022.
During the attack, Garg used a pair of scissors to intimidate the woman and attempted to restrain her by tying her hands with a handkerchief.
It was revealed to Sheffield Crown Court that Garg was arrested the following morning.
After being released on bail, he continued to contact the victim multiple times, making threats of self-harm and urging her to drop the charges.
He was later found in Bournemouth in September 2022 and taken into custody for attempting to obstruct justice.
The court heard that Garg, formerly of King Street, Wigan, was charged with multiple offences and remanded to court.
He ultimately received a sentence exceeding 11 years after pleading guilty to rape, oral rape, and perverting the course of justice.
Investigating officer PC Natasha Dawson commended the victim’s courage during the process, noting her cooperation in justice efforts.
She described the incident as highly violent and distressing, expressing her hope that Garg’s sentencing would provide some closure.
As part of his sentence, Garg was given a lifelong restraining order and will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
