LONDON MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL SEX ATTACK AND MURDER OF PARDEEP KAUR
Vadims Ruskuls, a 25-year-old man, has been convicted and sentenced for the brutal murder of Pardeep Kaur in west London. He was found guilty of killing her during a violent sex attack near Harlington Bridge in October.
The victim, a hotel housekeeper, was reported missing after she failed to return home from work.
Her partially-clothed body was discovered hidden in undergrowth at the scene nearly a week later.
Ruskuls was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Old Bailey, with a minimum term of 30 years.
The judge described the offense as "wicked" and "of the utmost gravity," emphasizing that the motive appeared to be sexual.
He refused to make any comment to police and declined to give evidence in court.
During the trial, CCTV footage showed Ruskuls following Ms.
Kaur as she approached the bridge, then disappearing for 25 minutes before reappearing carrying her partially clothed body.
The judge remarked that Ruskuls had shown "no remorse" and ordered that he be deported after serving his sentence.
The police matched Ruskuls's DNA with samples taken from Ms.
Kaur, with a probability of "one in a billion." Ruskuls's background shows he and his mother were believed to have been sleeping rough under the bridge crossing the M4 when the attack occurred.
Her husband, Rachpal Singh, expressed his sorrow in a victim impact statement, questioning why such a tragic event happened and lamenting the lack of explanation from Ruskuls.
The case highlighted the danger Ruskuls posed, as he was recognized by police from CCTV footage and identified through DNA evidence, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction for this heinous crime.
