BOBBY KEOGH
Keogh, an Edinburgh resident, assaulted his girlfriend and her neighbor during a jealous outburst after attempting to return home to his city of origin.
Approximately three and a half months prior to the incident, Keogh had met the woman online and relocated from Edinburgh to Whinmoor Way in Stanks, a small village near Leeds, to be with her.
However, his jealousy regarding her previous relationship soon became unmanageable.
On March 24, the woman and her neighbor went out for lunch at a pub.
During this time, Keogh sent her numerous threatening text messages, expressing intentions to harm her ex-partner because of his ongoing contact with her daughter.
When she arrived home around 3.20 pm, she found Keogh seated on the sofa.
An argument erupted, during which Keogh again issued threats against her former partner.
Concerned he might become violent, she contacted her neighbor to come over and also alerted the police.
Keogh then attacked both women physically, hitting them in the head and face.
He also grabbed a kitchen knife briefly but dropped it quickly.
Subsequently, he picked up a pipe from a vacuum cleaner and struck his partner, additionally threatening to kill her for calling the police.
Later, Keogh was arrested at a railway station while attempting to purchase a ticket to Edinburgh.
He claimed in police custody that he had been assaulted first and was reacting in self-defense, but he refused to answer further questions during the interview.
At Leeds Crown Court, he admitted to two counts of ABH, resulting in injuries including a broken nose and cuts and bruises.
Keogh, who had no prior convictions, appeared via video link from HMP Doncaster, where he was held on remand.
Defense lawyer Michael Walsh stated that Keogh was “mortified” by his actions.
He declared that Keogh was remorseful, ashamed, and had no excuse for his conduct, emphasizing that he had no previous criminal record and did not want to reappear in court.
Judge Neil Clark sentenced Keogh to 26 months in prison and ordered a five-year restraining order.
He commented that Keogh's excessive drinking on the day of the incident might explain his behavior but considered it an aggravating factor.
