CHILD PREDATOR JAILED FOR ABUSING CHILD AND SHARING VIDEOS
A depraved paedophile who recorded himself sexually abusing a child and then offered to send videos of the abuse to another predator has been sentenced to prison.
David Barrett, aged 34, captured himself assaulting the young victim and engaged in disturbing conversations in which he offered the videos to another convicted paedophile.
Prosecutor Joe Culley told Leeds Crown Court that authorities investigating the other man uncovered these conversations, which led to Barrett's arrest.
The court was told that Barrett exchanged 111 messages and 35 attachments, during which he asked, "Wanna see?" and sent a Category B indecent video.
He then inquired whether he should send another video so he could see the other person's "enjoyment." Barrett pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault of a child under 13, as well as the distribution and production of indecent images.
Authorities also discovered additional disturbing videos on his phone, including one showing him assaulting the child again.
The victim's mother described the profound impact of Barrett's actions, detailing the upheaval in their family and her daughter's suffering.
Barrett was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison, comprising seven years behind bars and a five-year extended license period.
During police interviews, he answered "no comment" but later expressed remorse in a letter to the court.
