BEDFORDSHIRE POLICE OFFICERS SECURE MAJOR VICTORIES IN CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CASES

Two men have been sentenced in connection with serious sexual offences involving children, resulting in a combined total prison sentence of 23 years. Tevin Sherif, aged 21, received a 15-year term for attempted rape after unlawfully entering a property in Luton in the early hours of June 1, 2024, and sexually assaulting a child. The victim was able to alert their parents, which led Sherif to flee the scene. Following this, Sherif broke into a second nearby property, where he was confronted by two women who then contacted the police. He was arrested on the same day and was later remanded in custody. Additionally, he received a further four-year sentence for trespassing with intent to commit a crime, to run concurrently. The judge described him as dangerous, imposing a five-year extended licence, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and a lifetime Sex Offenders Register registration. In a separate case, 22-year-old Tyrese Wilson pleaded guilty to the rape of a child, leading to an eight-year jail sentence. Wilson arranged to meet the victim, along with another person, in Luton in 2021, and took them to a property where he assaulted the victim despite their pleas to stop. The assault was reported to the police shortly afterward. Wilson, who has no fixed address, was sentenced on March 26 and was also ordered to be on the Sex Offenders Register for life. Bedfordshire Police’s investigating officer Louise Shepherd emphasized the severity of these crimes, stating: “Rape and sexual abuse is the most horrendous experience for any child or young adult to have to go through as it not only ruins their young years but can stay with them through adulthood too. In both of these cases, these individuals demonstrated their dangerous nature, seeking opportunities to prey on vulnerable girls.” She urged the public to continue reporting any suspicions of abuse, saying: “We are committed to addressing all forms of abuse against children and strongly encourage anyone who suspects that a child is being sexually abused, or has been a victim themselves, regardless of when it occurred, to come forward.
