HORRIFIC CRIME: TYRECE APPLEBY OF HORNSEY THREATENS KITTENS AND STRANGLES WOMAN IN NOTTINGHAM
Tyreece Appleby, a 22-year-old man originally from Hornsey in North London, has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison after a series of violent and disturbing acts against his former partner and her pets in Nottingham. The court heard how Appleby, who was living in Nottingham at the time, engaged in a brutal campaign of domestic violence that culminated in him threatening to harm animals and physically assaulting the woman.According to court proceedings, Appleby’s violent behavior included multiple instances of strangulation, during which he twice placed his hands around the woman’s neck, restricting her breathing and causing her to nearly lose consciousness. The violence was triggered by false accusations of infidelity, which led to Appleby’s uncontrollable rage. On one particular night in October, he strangled her twice in quick succession, with the victim describing how her face turned pale and she felt herself slipping in and out of consciousness. Despite her attempts to seek safety, she was followed to a friend’s house, where Appleby continued to hurl accusations and threats.
During this distressing episode, Appleby’s threats escalated to include arson and violence. He accused her of being unfaithful and threatened to set her Nottingham flat on fire. The situation worsened when he made a video call during which he violently shook one of her kittens by the scruff of its neck and threatened to pour boiling water over it. Although the cat required veterinary treatment, it could not be conclusively proven that boiling water was used, but the threat alone was enough to terrify the victim and her pet.
Prosecutor Andrew Fitch-Holland detailed the sequence of events, emphasizing the severity of Appleby’s actions. He explained that the defendant’s threats extended beyond animals, as he also made explicit threats to harm the victim herself, including setting her home ablaze. The court was shown footage of the disturbing video call, which revealed Appleby’s violent behavior and use of transphobic and homophobic language.
Appleby’s criminal record includes charges of intentional strangulation, criminal damage, malicious communication, and animal cruelty. He pleaded guilty to all charges, which led to his sentencing. The judge, Steven Coupland, described Appleby’s actions as cruel and sadistic, highlighting the danger inherent in strangulation and the emotional trauma inflicted on the victim. The court also imposed a seven-year ban on him owning or keeping animals, which will expire in February 2032.
In mitigation, defense attorney Dominic Shelley argued that Appleby is a young man with complex mental health issues. He pointed out that Appleby, who is now 22, has spent most of his adult life in custody, and emphasized his guilty plea as a sign of remorse. Despite these factors, the court sentenced him to two years and 11 months in prison and issued restraining orders to prevent any future contact with the victims.
In summary, this case underscores the severity of domestic violence and animal cruelty, illustrating the dangerous behavior of a man from Hornsey who inflicted physical and emotional harm on his former partner and her pets in Nottingham. The court’s decision aims to protect the victims and prevent further violence from Appleby in the future.
