NORTH LONDON CHURCH DEACON CONVICTED OF DECADES OF ABUSE
John Grant, a well-known church deacon and youth group leader in north London, has been convicted of grooming and sexually assaulting young men over a span of fifty years. At Wood Green Court, he was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault and six counts of indecent assault committed between 1970 and 2012.
Authorities suspect there may be additional victims, given his longstanding involvement with various religious organizations.
The 77-year-old perpetrated his crimes at Muswell Hill Baptist Church, where he held a prominent position, as well as at other churches and youth groups in north London, and Billingham Baptist Church in Stockton-on-Tees.
The London Baptist Association expressed profound regret over the conviction, condemning his actions and reaffirming their dedication to safeguarding.
The police investigation was initiated after a victim came forward, revealing abuse beginning in 1994, which led to the discovery of more victims and links to other churches.
Grant is scheduled to be sentenced on 11 September.
