DEPTFORD MAN GETS 13 YEARS FOR ELDERLY WOMAN'S DEATH IN FIRE
Tuan Anh Le, aged 23 and a Vietnamese national without a permanent address, was convicted at Croydon Crown Court and sentenced to 13 years in prison for manslaughter. He was found guilty of setting fire to the residence of 82-year-old Giuseppina Fazzani in Deptford on 29 May of the previous year.
The fire caused fatal injuries to Ms.
Fazzani, who was found unconscious with severe burns and was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities stated that Le initiated the blaze after an argument with the owner of a nearby bar, which also became a target of the arson.
During the court proceedings, Le argued that he had been forced into carrying out the act.
Both police and family members described the incident as tragic, highlighting that the victim had spent most of her life in Deptford.
In addition to the manslaughter sentence, Le received a 10-year term for arson, with both sentences to be served simultaneously.
Evidence indicated that Le was observed driving in the area on the night of the attack before buying petrol and setting the fire that resulted in Ms.
Fazzani’s death.
