HARBORNE MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULTING EX-PARTNER IN FRONT OF CHILD
A man with a history of violence has been jailed for striking his former partner in front of their child.Troy Gayle, 27, of Leasow Drive in Harborne, was involved in an incident following a stay at his partner's home in Evesham on April 16.
During this incident, as his partner was leaving the house, Gayle ran up to her and slapped her in the face in front of their young daughter.
Gayle handed himself in to the police on April 20 and admitted to the assault before pleading guilty to a charge of common assault.
Worcester Crown Court heard that Gayle visited his partner's home in Evesham on April 16, where an altercation ensued after he stayed the night.
At one point, he ran up to her and slapped her in the face while their child was present.
Passing sentence, Judge Nicholas Cole expressed strong disapproval, stating that Gayle should be 'ashamed' of his actions.
The judge noted his previous convictions for violence and emphasized the gravity of the incident, especially as it occurred in front of their daughter.
Gayle was sentenced to nine weeks in prison and was also handed a restraining order.
The judge remarked, "You are 27-years-old and I have to sentence you for assault by beating." Additionally, he highlighted the fact that Gayle's assault happened during an argument over a key and involved physical violence towards his former partner.
Judge Cole further criticized Gayle's behaviour, saying, "You have had previous convictions for violence and it took place in the presence of your own daughter.
Frankly you should be ashamed of yourself." The court also summarized that Gayle must reflect on the role model he is setting by hitting his former partner in front of their child.
