TREVER SUNMAN HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE IN KINGSTON UPON HULL REVEALED
Trevor Wayne Sunman, born on August 13, 1973, and residing on Fremantle Avenue in Kingston upon Hull, became the subject of a serious animal cruelty case that drew the attention of local authorities and animal welfare organizations.The case centered around the neglect and starvation of two Staffordshire bull terriers, Lily and Herbie, which were found in deplorable conditions at his home.
Humberside Police officers responded to a call regarding the welfare of the dogs at Sunman's residence.
Upon arrival, they discovered the animals living amidst a shocking environment, with the floors covered in feces and urine, indicating a severe lack of hygiene and care.
The officers, recognizing the severity of the situation, contacted the RSPCA to intervene and provide assistance.
When RSPCA inspectors arrived at the scene, they encountered a distressing sight.
Lily, one of the Staffordshire bull terriers, was found to be in a critically malnourished state, so emaciated and dehydrated that she required immediate medical treatment, including being placed on a drip to rehydrate her.
The conditions in which the dogs were kept were so appalling that the animals had no access to food, and their environment was grossly unhygienic.
Both dogs were taken into the care of the RSPCA and were subsequently made available for rehoming, with the hope of giving them a fresh start away from neglect.
Trevor Sunman was charged with causing unnecessary suffering to the animals and failing to provide a suitable environment for their well-being.
Despite being charged in his absence, he was found guilty of these offences.
Sunman claimed that he believed his ex-partner was visiting the house to feed the dogs, which was his explanation for the neglect.
The charges against him specifically related to Lily’s condition, which was so dire that she needed medical intervention, and the overall unhygienic environment in which both dogs were kept.
Lucy Green, an RSPCA inspector involved in the case, described the scene: “We were called by the police who initially saw the state of Lily and Herbie, the dog she was with.
As soon as I got to the house, I immediately slipped in the feces that was covering the floor.
There was dog feces and urine everywhere — I’ve never seen anything like it.
It was simply a lack of food and care that led to these dogs being in this state, and it could have been prevented.” Green added that the dogs were friendly and resilient, and they responded well once they received proper feeding and hydration.
Thanks to the intervention, the dogs recovered quickly and are now ready to be rehomed into caring, loving environments.
In terms of sentencing, Trevor Sunman received a 12-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to pay costs amounting to £415.
Additionally, he was handed a 10-year ban on keeping any animals, a restriction that will remain in effect until August 2029.
The court’s decision reflected the seriousness of the neglect and the need to protect animals from future harm.
Following an appeal in February 2020, Sunman’s suspended prison sentence was reduced from 12 weeks to 10 weeks.
However, all other conditions, including the one-year suspension period that expired in August 2020, and the 10-year disqualification order, remained unchanged.
Currently, Trevor Sunman resides back at Fremantle Avenue with his family, including his father.
Disturbingly, reports indicate that two Staffordshire bull terriers are still living at the property under poor conditions.
Neighbors have expressed concerns that the dogs are not being properly cared for, are subjected to verbal abuse, rarely fed, and never taken for walks.
The area has also seen two recent drug raids on Sunman’s property, and he is known locally as a drug dealer and self-styled gangster.
The community remains fearful of his presence and the safety of the neighborhood.
