WINDSOR MAN TREVOR SMITH SENTENCED TO 21 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO CHILDREN

In May 2021, a Windsor man named Trevor Smith received a 21-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexually abusing two children under the age of 13. Smith, who formerly resided on Dedworth Road in Windsor, was found guilty of indecently assaulting a girl and raping a boy following a trial held in March.

At the sentencing at Reading Crown Court, Judge Edward Burgess labeled Smith as a “dangerous” offender. The court detailed how Smith’s abuse started when he was asked to babysit the young girl at around four years old. During this period, Smith indecently assaulted her on multiple occasions, including at least three times until she was approximately eight years old. Smith threatened her, saying that if she disclosed the abuse, he would publish “disgusting” photographs of her in newspapers.

The victim, who was sexually abused by Smith, provided a statement saying: “He abused me at such a young age, which has affected me in so many ways. I had so much potential but I lost confidence because I was consumed by what he did to me. I feel very angry that he took my childhood away from me.”

The second victim, a man who was raped and sexually assaulted by Smith between the ages of about 8 and 12, spoke of the long-term impacts he has suffered, including bed-wetting, insomnia, night terrors, and stomach issues. Reading Crown Court heard that Smith groomed this boy with sweets and snacks and showed him pornography.

The man’s statement read: “What he did to me has affected parts of my life from my school years to my present adult life. I felt trapped, I was not able to deal with what he did to me. I was made to feel unworthy and felt depressed and suicidal.”

During sentencing, Judge Burgess criticized Smith for pleading not guilty, which forced a trial that caused additional trauma to his victims by making them recount their experiences. He condemned Smith’s “systematic” abuse of the boy, which included rape and sexual assault, describing Smith’s actions as having “tragically become part of his formative life.” The judge emphasized the profound and life-changing psychological harm caused by Smith.

Addressing Smith’s abuse of the girl, the judge noted that it had caused her “severe distress.” Smith was convicted of multiple counts, including two of indecent assault, three of indecent assault of a male, two counts of rape, sexual assault of a child under 13, and rape of a child under 13.

On Wednesday, May 19, Smith appeared at Reading Crown Court and was sentenced to 21 years in prison. He will serve half of this sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
