TREVOR LOCKWOOD FROM WELWYN GARDEN CITY AND TAMWORTH JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN HERTFORDSHIRE
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention, Trevor Lockwood, a man with ties to both Welwyn Garden City and Tamworth, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for heinous child sex offences committed decades ago. The 77-year-old, who currently resides in Ryton, Tamworth, Staffordshire, appeared before St Albans Crown Court to face the charges that stemmed from a lengthy investigation into historical abuse allegations.Lockwood was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency, all involving two young girls who were under the age of 10 at the time of the offences. The court proceedings revealed that the abuse took place over a span of several years, beginning in the late 1970s and continuing into the late 1980s. During this period, Lockwood was living in Welwyn Garden City, where he was known to be a Jehovah’s Witness, a detail that added a disturbing layer to the case.
The court heard that Lockwood used threats and intimidation to silence his victims. One of the girls was told that God was watching her and that if she disclosed what had happened, either she or her loved ones would face deadly consequences. Such threats were intended to instill fear and prevent the victims from speaking out about the abuse they endured.
The investigation into Lockwood’s actions was initiated by the Hertfordshire Police’s Historic Child Abuse Investigation Unit. The unit was first alerted to the allegations in 2018 when both victims, showing remarkable bravery, came forward to disclose the abuse they had suffered as children. Their courage led to a thorough investigation that ultimately resulted in Lockwood’s arrest.
Following his arrest, Lockwood was taken into custody and interviewed by authorities. Despite maintaining his innocence during questioning, he was charged and subsequently pleaded not guilty. The case proceeded to trial, where the evidence presented led to his conviction and sentencing. Lockwood’s case highlights the importance of perseverance and bravery among victims of childhood abuse, and the justice system’s commitment to holding offenders accountable, regardless of how much time has passed.
