TREVER EMMETT'S REPEATED CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN ELLAND AND BRADFORD
In November 2015, Trevor Emmett, a man from Elland, found himself back behind bars after attempting to secure voluntary work at a community farm that was frequented by children. Despite his previous convictions and ongoing restrictions, Emmett, aged 41, made a move that demonstrated a blatant disregard for the conditions set by his sexual offences prevention order.Just a few months after being released from prison, Emmett attended an interview at the Bradford City Farm, a community project that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young people. During the proceedings, he confided to a key worker that he was exploring opportunities to volunteer at the farm. This revelation alarmed authorities because, under the terms of his SOPO, he was explicitly prohibited from seeking employment or voluntary positions that could grant him unsupervised access to minors under the age of 16.
Prosecutor Paul Nicholson emphasized that Emmett’s actions constituted a clear breach of his legal restrictions. Emmett, who has a long history of sexual offences involving children, pleaded guilty to this breach, which marked his fourth violation of the SOPO. His previous convictions include a 2012 case where police raided his Elland flat and uncovered hundreds of disturbing images and videos depicting child abuse, which he had downloaded. In that instance, he was sentenced to nine months in prison.
Further back, in 2009, Emmett was incarcerated for possessing over 12,000 indecent images of children, many of which showed children being raped or tortured. These images represented the most severe categories of child abuse material, highlighting the extent of his disturbing interests. His criminal record also includes a 2012 conviction where he received an additional nine months for similar offences involving child pornography.
During the 2015 hearing, it was revealed that Emmett had told a key worker he was interested in volunteering at Bradford City Farm, despite being under strict legal restrictions. The court was informed that his sexual offences prevention order explicitly forbade him from seeking employment or voluntary work that could give him access to children without supervision. His guilty plea to breaching this order resulted in a 32-month prison sentence, which was handed down by Judge Durham Hall QC.
In a related case from October 2013, Emmett, then 39, was sentenced to an additional 21 months after police discovered more child abuse images on his laptop. The police had seized the device during a raid at his home in Edward Close, Southowram. The analysis revealed 65 indecent images, some depicting young boys and girls in distressing and explicit situations. The judge expressed concern over the haphazard manner in which the case was being handled but emphasized the seriousness of Emmett’s continued offending.
Throughout his criminal history, Emmett has been repeatedly identified as a man with a compulsive addiction to child pornography. His offenses span over several years, with multiple convictions for possessing indecent images and breaching legal restrictions. His 2012 and 2013 sentences reflect the ongoing danger he poses to the community.
In June 2012, police raided his Elland flat again, uncovering hundreds of depraved images and films. The most serious images involved children being subjected to sexual abuse in the most vile ways. The police, led by Det Sgt Mick Ryan of the Calderdale Safeguarding Unit, described Emmett as a dangerous offender whose actions demonstrated a significant risk to children. Despite previous sentences, Emmett’s addiction persisted, and he continued to access and download child abuse material.
His history also includes a 2009 conviction for possessing over 14,000 indecent images, which resulted in a nine-month jail term. Shortly after his release, officers found him in breach of his sexual offences prevention order, which had banned him from possessing electronic devices capable of storing such material. Subsequent searches in 2010 and 2012 uncovered additional images, videos, and devices, further illustrating his ongoing offending behavior.
In July 2009, Emmett was sentenced to nine months for possessing thousands of indecent images, ranging from level one to level five. The police had seized his computer during a raid at his residence in Ashgrove House, Elland. The images included over 11,000 at the lowest level, with a smaller number at higher levels, some of which involved explicit videos showing children in distress.
Throughout his criminal career, Emmett has been recognized as a vulnerable individual with a history of emotional deprivation and learning difficulties. Despite efforts to control his compulsions, his addiction to child pornography has persisted, leading to multiple convictions and extended periods of imprisonment. He is required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and remains under an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, which restricts his use of electronic devices and contact with minors.
His repeated breaches and ongoing criminal behavior underscore the serious threat he continues to pose to the safety of children in Elland, Bradford, and the surrounding areas.
