MAN JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE AT KINGHORN AND DUNFERMLINE CARAVAN PARKS
In a case that has shocked the local community, Trevor Brown, a 50-year-old man originally from Stanley, was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of multiple child sexual abuse offenses that took place over a span of more than five years, beginning in the mid-1980s.The crimes were committed at various locations, including a caravan park in Kinghorn and residences in Halbeath and Kinross, with the earliest abuse starting when the victim was only two years old.
Brown’s offending history was brought to light during a High Court hearing in Edinburgh, where the presiding judge, Lord Richardson, described the acts as “truly horrendous.” The court heard that Brown, who was a teenager at the time of the offenses, targeted vulnerable young girls, subjecting them to sexual acts and exposing himself to at least one of his victims.
The judge emphasized that the impact of Brown’s actions has been profound and ongoing for the victims, leaving lasting scars.
Despite Brown’s claims of innocence during the trial, he was found guilty of five separate charges involving four different victims.
The crimes spanned from July 1986 to August 1991, with the youngest victim being just two years old when the abuse began at an address in Kinross.
The court detailed that Brown had carried out sexual acts and exposed himself to the child, actions that have left a deep emotional and psychological toll on the victims.
Further offenses occurred at locations including Halbeath, near Dunfermline, where Brown targeted a second young girl, and at Pettycur Bay caravan park in Kinghorn, where the final three offenses took place during the summer of 1991.
These incidents involved additional young girls, and the court highlighted the severity and repeated nature of his crimes.
In delivering his sentence, Lord Richardson acknowledged that Brown had served in the armed forces and maintained continuous employment since the time of the offenses.
However, he stressed that the seriousness of the crimes warranted a custodial sentence.
Following his conviction, Brown was also ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
