VIOLENT CANTERBURY THUG PUNCHED GIRLFRIEND SO HARD POLICE COULD HEAR THE IMPACT 20 METERS AWAY
In Canterbury, a violent incident saw 20-year-old Tommy Ellis assault his girlfriend with such force that the police, located 20 metres away, could hear the impact.Ellis, in a heated confrontation with Joanne Henson, spat at her, grasped her throat, and attempted to throw her over the city wall.
Remarkably, when police intervened, fearing she might be pushed down the 20-foot drop, Henson claimed they were merely 'play fighting.' However, CCTV footage contradicted her account, showing Ellis forcibly pushing her backward over the wall while shouting: 'I'm going to kill you!' As the case was heard at Canterbury Crown Court, Henson, who had previously been called a 'disgusting skank' by Ellis, anxiously paced outside.
A Crown Prosecution Service barrister disclosed her prior reluctance to cooperate with prosecutors.
Despite the serious assault, Ellis received a suspended sentence after escaping jail; Henson was seen smiling and embracing him as he departed.
Prosecutor James Ross recounted the events from December last year, noting that Ellis had been in a long-term 'intimate' relationship with Henson.
Witnesses described hearing Ellis threaten to kill her and hurl her from the bridge, calling her names and revealing the violence she endured.
One witness detailed witnessing Ellis slap Henson hard and pull her hair, violently pushing her over the railings.
Police officer PC Christopher Burnham testified that he saw Ellis punch Henson in the face from 20 metres away, the sound clearly audible.
When officers approached with pepper spray, Ellis paused, raised his hands, and submitted to arrest.
Henson's reaction included asking, 'What for...
play fighting?' and refusing to cooperate further.
Ellis, already on a suspended sentence for carrying an axe outdoors, also admitted theft of a washing machine.
Defense argued that Ellis’s ADHD and anger issues contributed to his actions.
The court sentenced him to four months in jail, suspended for two years, with 150 hours of unpaid work, and ordered him to pay £80 in compensation.
Additionally, he will be electronically tagged and confined to his home from 8pm to 6am for six months.
