FAMILY QUESTION WHY HUSBAND ACCUSED OF RAPE WAS NOT BANNED FROM CANTERBURY TATTOO STUDIO BEFORE MURDERING ESTRANGED WIFE
Ramona Stoia, 35, was murdered by her estranged husband Catalin Micu inside the couple’s GothInk Studio in Canterbury just two weeks after he was arrested on suspicion of multiple sexual assaults and breaching a non-molestation order. The 54-year-old then took his own life at the scene.
The family of Ramona believe police should have banned Micu from the tattoo parlour while investigating the claims he had raped her.
Despite concerns, a coroner ruled the murder was “not foreseeable”, and police handled Micu’s bail appropriately.
Micu had a history of allegations, including rape, and was released on bail with conditions that did not explicitly prevent him from entering the workplace they shared.
The attack unfolded shortly before 5pm on April 11, 2022, when Micu went into Ramona’s room, pulled her hair, and stabbed her multiple times, saying “Was it worth it, Ramona?” She was attacked at 4.43pm and pronounced dead at 5.51pm.
Micu then stabbed himself in the stomach and died from a liver laceration.
The coroner noted Micu had struggled to accept the end of their marriage and that the danger was not anticipated, with ongoing tensions and a questionable bail condition allowing him to attend their work premises.
