TOMASZ OLSZEWSKI FROM SAWSTON FACES JAIL OVER MASSIVE CHILD PORN AND EXTREME IMAGE OFFENSES

In a serious case that has shocked the local community in Sawston and the wider Cambridgeshire area, Tomasz Olszewski, a 33-year-old resident of Huddleston Way, has pleaded guilty to possessing an enormous collection of indecent images, including over 200,000 pictures of children. The case was heard at Cambridge Crown Court, where Olszewski admitted to multiple charges related to the possession and distribution of these illicit materials.

Olszewski's criminal activity was uncovered after authorities found that he had been in possession of 17 movies containing indecent images of children on June 13 of the previous year. These images were part of a larger collection that included a total of 84,333 indecent images of children, which he had accumulated between February 29 and June 14, 2012. Additionally, he possessed 13 extreme images depicting dogs and horses, as well as 39 prohibited images of children, all stored on his personal computer.

The prosecution, led by Sara Walker, explained that Olszewski initially discovered these images by accident while browsing a music sharing website. According to her, “This defendant first found the images on a music sharing website. He saw them accidentally and then his curiosity got the better of him.” The images were categorized into different severity levels, with 1,826 images classified as level five, the most severe, and a staggering 179,151 images at level one, the least severe. Other images fell into levels four, three, and two, with 21,401, 19,797, and 3,683 images respectively.

Defense attorney Charles Myatt attempted to mitigate Olszewski’s actions by explaining that the Polish national, who has been living in England since 2007, did not realize that storing these images in his personal folder on the sharing website would make them accessible to others. Myatt stated, “This man is a Polish national, and he has been in England since 2007. He has been employed throughout his time here and he lives with his brother and partner, and there are no children in the house. It was curiosity more than anything else.”

Olszewski was granted bail while awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for the week ending May 24. The court emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, with Judge Anthony Bate warning that the crimes committed by Olszewski cross the threshold for immediate imprisonment. The judge advised him to be honest about his actions, as transparency could influence the court’s assessment of the risk he poses and the potential for rehabilitation.

In a related case, the court referenced the case of 18-year-old Kieran Lynch from Cambridge, who was found to have downloaded over 60,000 images of child pornography along with a ‘paedophile guide’ that provided instructions on how to identify and abuse victims. Lynch’s home on Stevenson Court was raided on July 4 of the previous year, revealing 64,118 indecent images, including 488 at the most severe level five, and thousands at other levels. Lynch was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to 12 counts of making and possessing indecent images on February 7, highlighting the severity of such offenses in the region.
