VIOLENT EX IMPRISONED FOR HOSTAGE ORDEAL IN NOTTINGHAM
A woman was held captive in her home for five hours after her ex-partner, Tomas Dunka, forced his way in through a window at her former residence in Skipton Circus, Bakersfield, on June 30, 2023.During this terrifying incident, which began around 5.30 pm, Dunka attempted to call for help but was interrupted when he snatched the victim's phone, smashing it and slamming it at her face.
He prevented her from leaving and held her hostage for approximately five hours until she managed to escape through the back door.
Despite sustaining cuts to her arm and a black eye, she fled into the garden, climbed a fence, got into her car, and drove away.
Nottinghamshire Police were alerted by a bystander, and Dunka was found hiding in the garden and arrested after trying to flee.
He pleaded guilty to charges of false imprisonment and breaching a restraining order that was previously imposed in November 2022.
Dunka, who is 35 years old and formerly residing in Skipton Circus, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court and was subject to an indefinite restraining order.
The court revealed Dunka's prior convictions, which included multiple offences against the same victim, such as assault.
The victim expressed in her statement that she felt her ordeal "was never going to stop" and that she would need a long time before she no longer felt the need to "look over her shoulder and stop living in fear" of Dunka.
Detective Constable Harry Glass of Nottinghamshire Police stated, "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim who was held captive in her home for five hours.
While she wasn’t left with serious physical injuries, the emotional distress she suffered was substantial.
This incident understandably left her feeling scared and she has since had to give up her own home and move as a result of what happened to her.
I would like to commend her for her bravery during our investigation and I hope the prison sentence and fresh restraining order given to Dunka provide her with some measure of comfort and she can now move forward."
