HEALTHCARE WORKER SCOTT MCCANN HANDED SUSPENDED JAIL SENTENCE FOR INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
Police were called by a healthcare firm whose bosses suspected a worker was downloading child abuse images on his work laptop.Scott McCann, 28, was arrested and had his laptop seized as officials at Steris raised concerns he was viewing indecent images classed as 'Category A' - the most severe.
Officers found 48 films showing girls as young as six being abused when they searched the computer used by McCann, of Linton Rise, Bakersfield, Nottingham, Derbyshire Live reports.
He admitted when interviewed he was sexually aroused by viewing the movies, as well as other ones involving bestiality.
Now he has 18 months to stay out of trouble or risk being sent to prison.
Handing him a nine-month suspended sentence at Derby Crown Court, Judge Jonathan Bennett said: “You are 28 years old and you have not previously come to the attention of the authorities before.
“On June 1, 2018 thing changed for you, perhaps forever.
“Your employers suspected you and some of your activity and reported it to the police.
“Later examination found category A movies which is the most serious category.
“These involved children as young as six as well as ones involving bestiality.
“There is some pretty appalling stuff here.” Sarah Slater, prosecuting, said police were called by bosses at Derby-based Steris as they believed McCann had been using his works laptop to view pornographic material.
She said they did so because his device had been seized by his firm and “graphic images” they uncovered “caused them concern”.
Miss Slater said: “On his work laptop there was a zip file and on it were 48 movies of category A two of category B and a prohibited image.
“The category A all showed girls aged six to 14 and showed penetrative and non-penetrative sexual activity.
“In interview he admitted he had been looking at adult pornography and said as a result of that these images had been found.
“He does admit that he was sexually aroused by looking at some of the images of young girls.” McCann pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent images of children and one of making a prohibited image.
He has no previous convictions.
Ben Robinson, mitigating, said his client is in full-time work, earning £28,000 per year and could afford to pay any financial penalty the court might choose to impose within three months.
As well as the suspended sentence, Judge Bennett ordered McCann to attend an accredited sex offender program for up to 90 days and to carry out 30 rehabilitation sessions with the probation service.
He also ordered him to do 150 hours unpaid work and to pay £600 costs and a £140 victim surcharge.
McCann, who was supported in court by a woman, will be on the sex offender’s register for 10 years and was handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
