YORKSHIRE MAN CONVICTED OF CONTROLLING AND COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR AGAINST EX-PARTNERS
Todd Pappin, 31, was convicted at Leeds Crown Court of two counts of controlling and coercive behaviour involving his two former partners. He was found guilty of a sustained pattern of dubious control, monitoring, demeaning comments, and manipulation over the women during their relationships between 2016-2017 and 2019-2020.
The court sentenced him to a two-year suspension and imposed an indefinite restraining order.
Pappin, of Carr Lane, Low Moor in Bradford, was described as an "immature, controlling bully" by the judge, Recorder Hawks, who criticized his jealous and aggressive conduct, including violence.
The victim impact statements revealed profound psychological damage, with one woman describing her experience as "the most isolating and loneliest experience" and expressing her struggle to recognize she was a victim of domestic abuse.
She shared how Pappin's actions led to her having PTSD, nightmares, and flashbacks, and how she had lost her identity and self-esteem, feeling humiliated and contemplating suicide.
After serving her ordeal, she expressed her strength and intention to help others and emphasized her concern that Pappin might reoffend, though she was glad he was being punished.
The court ordered him to complete 25 days of rehabilitation activities and 150 hours of unpaid work.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lambert of West Yorkshire Police highlighted the seriousness of his actions and the trauma inflicted on his victims, reaffirming the police's commitment to tackling domestic abuse and supporting victims.
The judge, while acknowledging Pappin's remorse and the possibility of rehabilitation, stated he deserved prison time, emphasizing his jealousy and controlling behavior which had a damaging effect on the women involved.
