MAN JAILED FOR RAPE AND ATTEMPTED RAPE OF TWO GIRLS

A man from Brighton, Toby Macenzie, aged 24, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of raping a teenage girl and attempting to assault another girl both of whom he knew when he was also a teenager.

Macenzie, who resides on Carlyle Street in Brighton, appeared in crown court in Brighton on Friday, 7 November, to face charges related to two counts of rape.

According to reports received by Sussex Police in 2018, two underage girls reported being raped by a boy known to them.

The first victim, aged 16 at the time, claimed that Macenzie had tried to rape her and committed a serious sexual assault when they met on holiday in 2018.

Later that year, in June, Macenzie also raped a 15-year-old girl at his home after giving her alcohol.

The girl awoke to find Macenzie raping her in a bedroom; she then became unwell and was unable to leave.

During this time, she was raped again.

Evidence from her phone indicated that she told Macenzie she did not consent, and Macenzie had apologized for his actions.

The victims received ongoing support from specialist officers throughout the court proceedings.

Macenzie was arrested and charged with two counts of raping a girl, attempted rape of a woman over 16, and assault by penetration.

At the hearing on 7 November, he was sentenced to four years and six months in prison.
