SUSSEX POLICE STATEMENT ON BRIGHTON MAN WHO KILLED HIS DAD
Police have released a statement after a mentally unwell 20-year-old pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his own father.Fabio Botros killed his father, 57-year-old Emad Samir Botros Farag, after hitting him on the head with a hammer in their Brighton family home.
He also stabbed his mother with a kitchen knife, though not fatally, and attacked his 27-year-old sister, and an 11-year-old boy.
The incident took place at their home on Hartfield Avenue on April 1 last year, when Botros was 19 years old.

Now aged 20, Botros appeared at Lewes Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his father, and grievous bodily harm of his mother and the 11-year-old boy.
The court heard that Botros suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, and that his medication for the condition was reduced in the months before the attack.
Before attacking his dad, Fabio was heard talking to himself.
He was in his room packing an extra bag for the trip to Egypt.
He was heard talking to himself saying "stop, stop, please stop" and "leave me alone." Following the court case, Sussex Police offered a statement on the "tragic and devastating" attack, stating that Fabio received an indefinite hospital order in relation to the offences committed on 1 April, 2025.
"Our thoughts continue to be with Emad’s family, who have been profoundly affected by this tragic incident.
Emad was a much-loved family member, and his loss continues to be deeply felt.
We extend our sincere thanks for the community's support.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore said: "Fabio Botros has now received an indefinite hospital order in relation to the offences committed on 1 April, 2025.
We hope this outcome assists the family’s healing journey."
