TIMOTHY NEWMAN FROM WAKERING JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND UP SKIRT FILMING IN ESSEX
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Great Wakering and the wider Essex area, Timothy Newman, aged 44, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after being found guilty of possessing and creating indecent images of children, as well as engaging in voyeuristic activities targeting young girls. The case came to light following a police raid on his residence in Glebe Close, where authorities uncovered a disturbing collection of illicit material. On November 8, 2007, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Newman’s home, which he shared with his wife, Patricia Newman, aged 40, and their children. During the raid, officers seized numerous videos and DVDs from various rooms, including his bedroom, kitchen, and dining area. The seized media contained a total of 1,883 images of child abuse, along with 728 films, many of which were classified as the most severe category of illegal content. Some of these videos extended over an hour in length and depicted young girls as young as seven years old in distressing and explicit scenes.
Further investigations revealed that Newman had also engaged in covert filming activities in public spaces. He was caught on camera using a hidden video camera concealed within a bag to record upskirt footage of unsuspecting girls and women in parks and shopping districts across south Essex. This behavior demonstrated a pattern of predatory conduct aimed at exploiting vulnerable individuals without their knowledge or consent.
At Basildon Crown Court, Judge Christopher Mitchell delivered the verdict, emphasizing the gravity of Newman’s actions. He stated, “A custodial sentence is entirely appropriate in your case,” underscoring the seriousness of the crimes committed.
Timothy Newman had previously pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including 12 counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing such images, and two counts of outraging public decency. His wife, Patricia Newman, was also detained during the investigation after being filmed on a video recorded by her husband. She faced allegations of interfering with an animal, which contributed to her arrest.
Judge Mitchell sentenced Patricia Newman to a 12-month community order, which includes a requirement to participate in a ten-day education, training, and employment program. Additionally, Timothy Newman was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, with strict restrictions placed upon him. He is prohibited from being alone with any child under 16, except his own, and is barred from contacting other sex offenders, filming individuals without their consent, or carrying concealed cameras.
The court also mandated the forfeiture and destruction of all electronic devices, DVDs, and videos related to the case, aiming to prevent any further dissemination of the illegal material. This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable members of society from predatory behavior.
