BRADFORD MAN JAILED FOR KILLING GIRLFRIEND IN FRONT OF MUM
Til Rana, aged 33, was found guilty of the murder of his 18-year-old girlfriend, Beena Bhatt, in his apartment at Landmark House, Bradford, during April.
The court was informed that Rana carried out the killing after Miss Bhatt decided to end their relationship.
The crime occurred in front of her mother, who was injured while trying to shield her daughter from harm.
Following a trial at Bradford Crown Court, Rana received a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years before being eligible for parole.
The prosecution described the incident as a 'shocking and tragic case of extreme domestic violence.' Evidence during the proceedings revealed that Rana had previously issued threats about his intentions if the relationship was broken off and had a concealed knife in the flat.
The Crown Prosecution Service highlighted Rana's refusal to accept the end of the relationship and his choice to commit murder rather than release Beena Bhatt, driven by a desire for control and possession over her.
