ANDOVER MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING AND VIOLENT ABUSE OF EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man from Andover has been found guilty of physically abusing his former partner.Thomas Williams, aged 24, subjected the woman to three months of controlling conduct and physical assaults, which resulted in her feeling isolated and traumatized.
Court records describe incidents where he headbutted her in the nose, leading to pain and swelling, pushed her against a wall, and threw items such as a lighter and remote control at her while they were living in Winchester from August to November 2019.
The case also revealed that he bit her arm, breaking the skin, held a kitchen knife to her throat, and shattered her phone against his head.
Prosecutor Kassia Pletscher told the court that Williams once tried to burn her hair with a lighter, saying, “if we aren’t together then you don’t need your hair.” The victim shared her emotional state, saying she feels exhausted and no longer recognizes herself, stating: “I used to be a really happy and bubbly person before I met Williams but now I’m sad and tired all the time.
I’ve got no life.
I don’t speak to my friends anymore, I’m just alone.
I want it to stop and I want me back.” Apart from the abuse charges, Williams appeared in court related to possessing a machete at Focus Way and cannabis at Basingstoke Police Station on November 18, 2020.
He also previously admitted to possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply, along with having a lock knife in Speen Lane, Newbury, in 2017.
He was sentenced to 30 months in prison and received a three-year restraining order that forbids him from contacting the woman.
The judge noted that Williams left his ex-partner “deeply traumatised” and aimed to instill maximum fear and distress.
