THOMAS RENDALL FROM EAST SUSSEX CHARGED WITH SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRL

A police officer from Sussex has been formally charged with serious sexual offences involving a teenage girl, according to the Sussex Police force. The officer, identified as PC Thomas Rendell, aged 23, faces multiple allegations that include a grave charge of raping a minor. In addition to this, he has been charged with three other serious sexual misconduct offences.

The charges specify that Rendell attempted to induce a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity, and he is also accused of having engaged in sexual activity with a girl within that same age range. Furthermore, he is charged with participating in non-penetrative sexual acts with a girl aged 13 to 15. These alleged incidents are said to have occurred over a period spanning from February 1 to June 30, 2022, as detailed by Sussex Police.

At the time of the alleged offences, PC Rendell was assigned to the East Sussex division. However, it has been clarified that he was not actively serving as a police officer when the incidents took place. Despite this, he has been suspended from duty pending further investigation.

The case has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC), which announced that a thorough investigation by the Professional Standards Department would be conducted locally. The Sussex Police force has stated that they will consider initiating misconduct proceedings against Rendell once the criminal case has been resolved.

Thomas Rendell is scheduled to appear before Guildford Magistrates' Court on the 4th of February to face these serious allegations. The case continues to develop as authorities pursue justice and accountability in this troubling matter.
