THOMAS PATON FROM ANGLESEY SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN NORTH WALES AND MANCHESTER

In a chilling case that has shocked the community, Thomas Paton, a 46-year-old man from Anglesey, was handed a life sentence yesterday after being convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of young children. The court heard how Paton engaged in a series of disturbing acts, including filming and photographing himself as he committed these unspeakable acts.

One of the most disturbing pieces of evidence presented was a 20-minute video in which Paton was recorded attempting to rape an 18-month-old toddler. This sickening footage revealed the extent of his depravity and was part of a larger collection of material that police uncovered during a raid on his residence in Anglesey, located in North Wales. Authorities seized a total of 26 videotapes and two photo albums, all containing material related to his abuse.

During the court proceedings at Caernarfon Crown Court, Judge Mr. Justice Poole condemned Paton’s actions, stating, “You pose a serious danger to the public and in particular very young girls.” The court was informed that Paton had targeted seven young girls in total, with the oldest victims being only 13 or 14 years old. His crimes spanned a period during which he exploited the innocence of these children, some of whom he had previously babysat, including a girl aged between two and three, who appeared in his collection of illicit material.

Paton admitted to attempting to rape, committing nine counts of indecent assault, taking seven indecent photographs of children, and possessing indecent images. However, he denied charges of rape, a second attempted rape, and two counts of administering a stupefying or overpowering substance. The prosecution chose not to pursue these particular charges, and the court accepted the plea on the admitted counts.

His arrest took place two weeks after the initial raid, when police apprehended him at a hotel in Manchester. During police interviews, Paton revealed a disturbing fascination with children’s innocence, claiming he had been attracted to them from a young age. His defense lawyer, Elfyn Llwyd, acknowledged that Paton had been subjected to repeated sexual abuse during his own childhood, suggesting that this background might have contributed to his deviant behavior. Llwyd stated, “There’s no excuse for what he has been doing,” but also noted that early abuse may have influenced his actions, which he described as “errant and inexcusable.”

Judge Poole sentenced Paton to life imprisonment for attempted rape, emphasizing the severity of his crimes. Additionally, he received a total of eight years for the other charges, which include indecent assaults and possession of indecent images. As part of his sentence, Paton is required to register as a sex offender for life. Many of the offenses occurred in the Manchester area, highlighting the geographical spread of his criminal activities. It was also revealed that Paton had a prior conviction from 1990 for indecent assault and taking indecent photographs.

In his sentencing remarks, the judge expressed hope that Paton would seek help while incarcerated, recognizing the importance of addressing the underlying issues that led to his offending. The case has left a lasting impact on the community, and authorities continue to emphasize the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable children from predators like Thomas Paton.
