YORKSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR CAMPAIGN OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMAN
A man from Rotherham, described as a "danger to the public," has been sentenced following his involvement in an extreme campaign of violence against a woman. The victim, who demonstrated remarkable bravery, came forward to police earlier this year, which led to an investigation by South Yorkshire Police.
Keeling, aged 33, resisted arrest by attempting to slamming the door in officers' faces and not allowing them entry.
She also recounted how he had dragged her through a bedroom, assaulted her multiple times, and left her nearly unconscious before attacking her again.
She shared harrowing details, including being forced to swallow a pool cue and a vacuum pipe, acts that made her fear she might die.
The emotional distress was so intense that she considered taking her own life, as she endured verbal abuse and controlling behaviour from Keeling.
At Sheffield Crown Court, he admitted to two counts of grievous bodily harm, two counts of non-fatal strangulation, and controlling behaviour, which resulted in a nine-year prison sentence and a 15-year restraining order.
Detective Nat Duffy spoke highly of the victim’s bravery and described the extent of her suffering as beyond words.
Although her physical injuries have healed following surgical intervention, her psychological scars remain.
Duffy criticized Keeling’s apparent lack of remorse, citing his dismissive conduct during arrest procedures and his refusal to comment during interviews, offering various excuses instead.
His guilty plea prevented a trial, sparing her the ordeal of reliving these events.
The court’s ruling intends to provide her with some closure, but she acknowledged that the pain inflicted will stay with her for life.
