ROBBER WHO TARGETS THE ELDERLY
Thomas Honeyman, aged 36, has been sentenced to over five years in prison after committing a series of criminal acts, including a violent robbery that involved dragging an elderly woman to the ground and stealing her purse. The crimes began when Honeyman stole a white Jeep from a business location in Fengate, Peterborough, on 10 March.
He then drove the vehicle to Crowland, where he impersonated a pest control worker to gain entry to a woman’s home.
She had told him she needed to contact a relative, but he pressured her into giving him £28.
When she retrieved her purse, Honeyman tried to snatch it, causing her to fall and then fleeing with £1,000 cash.
A neighbour responded to her screams, but Honeyman drove away before being caught.
Soon after, he stole a leaf blower from a local landscaper.
On 12 March, Honeyman targeted an elderly man in Eye Green, convincing him to let him into his house under the guise of fixing the boiler and subsequently stealing a handbag belonging to the man’s wife.
Earlier, on 5 March, he stole a handbag left temporarily on a car roof in Werrington and also took tools from B&Q in Maskew Avenue, along with more tools from a van in Crowland.
Police linked Honeyman to the crimes through forensic evidence, including finding the stolen leaf blower and the Jeep, which was seized.
He was wearing the same clothes during his arrest on 15 March as when the crimes occurred.
Admitting to multiple charges robbery, burglaries, theft from a person and a vehicle Honeyman was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court to five years and four months behind bars.
