MAN JAILED AFTER ‘TERRIFYING’ ATTACK ON PARTNER
A man from Whittlesey was sentenced to prison after subjecting his girlfriend to a prolonged and terrifying assault, which included choking her unconscious.Adam Marchant, aged 32 and residing in West End, became enraged in February after accusing his partner of talking to her child's father.
While she was driving home from a friend's residence, Marchant forcefully grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to collide with a metal flood gate.
He then dragged her into the passenger seat and proceeded to speed away.
The violence intensified once they reached their destination.
Marchant pulled his partner out of the car, pressed her against another vehicle, and strangled her until she fainted.
After she regained consciousness and attempted to escape, he restrained her with a headlock, took her inside, and confiscated her phone to prevent her from calling for help.
Inside the property, he blocked the door, held a knife, and told her she was not allowed to leave, also threatening to take his own life.
She managed to escape by seizing the keys when he put them down, locked herself in her car, and contacted police.
Marchant pleaded guilty to two counts of intentional strangulation, as well as charges of driving while disqualified and operating a vehicle without insurance.
On 21 November at Cambridge Crown Court, he was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.
He received a ten-year restraining order and was prohibited from driving for two years and four months.
