THOMAS GORDON FROM AIRDRIE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND VIOLENCE

In a case that has shocked the community of Airdrie, Thomas Gordon has been sentenced to seven years in prison following a series of violent and sexual offenses. The incident that led to his conviction occurred shortly after Gordon was released from jail, highlighting a disturbing pattern of behavior that escalated over time.

On September 20, 2019, Gordon targeted a woman at her residence in Airdrie. This attack came just hours after he had been granted bail, despite having previously committed a serious assault involving a knife and ongoing harassment. The victim, who had earlier written a letter—later revealed to be fabricated—to support his release, was subjected to a brutal assault by Gordon. He forced her to claim she did not wish to press charges, a move that was part of his manipulative tactics.

Gordon’s violent conduct extended beyond this incident. Weeks prior, he had physically assaulted another woman by kicking her on the head. Following this, he left her terrified with a barrage of threatening texts and voicemails. Additionally, he vandalized her property by painting abusive messages on her walls and door, further demonstrating his pattern of intimidation and violence.

His criminal record includes a previous conviction for a severe domestic assault involving a knife, which underscores the dangerous escalation of his offending. During the recent trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Weir described Gordon’s actions as a violent course of conduct that had reached a troubling new level. The court found him guilty of ten charges, including rape, assault, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Following his conviction, Gordon was remanded in HMP Addiewell. Despite this, he managed to contact a relative of one of his victims in an attempt to influence her testimony. Gordon admitted to asking her to tell the court that a kick he had inflicted was accidental, and his lawyer, Tony Lenehan, questioned whether Gordon intended to have the charges dropped, to which Gordon responded that he was willing to plead guilty to vandalism.

Remarkably, after being released on bail on September 19, Gordon and the victim shared a meal at a Chinese restaurant. However, the following morning, he committed a heinous act of sexual violence, raping her in her home. During this assault, he shouted and swore at her and even grabbed her by the throat. Gordon claimed that the victim had consented to the sexual activity, a statement strongly contested by the evidence presented.

Gordon’s violent tendencies were not limited to this incident. On February 28, 2019, he attacked another woman at a different address in Airdrie. This assault involved stamping, kicking, and an attempt to remove her clothing. He also engaged in bizarre behavior, such as sending food deliveries to her home in an apparent attempt to intimidate or provoke her. His history of violence includes multiple instances of punching, kicking, and threatening behavior.

In total, Gordon was convicted of multiple serious charges, including rape, assault, threats, and attempting to pervert the course of justice. The court also ordered that he be placed on the sex offenders register and be subject to supervision for three years after his release. Both victims were protected by court orders prohibiting any contact with Gordon, which are set to remain in effect indefinitely. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Airdrie, highlighting the dangers posed by individuals with a history of violent and predatory behavior.
