THOMAS DEAN FROM WHISTON SENTENCED AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK IN PRESCOT
A man identified as Thomas Dean has been sentenced to prison following a brutal assault on a woman in Prescot. Dean, aged 36 and residing on Lancaster Avenue in Whiston, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday, 14 May, where he pleaded guilty to charges of section 18 wounding with intent and assault by beating.The incident in question took place on 7 November 2024 outside a shop in Prescot, a town in the Merseyside area. Dean was convicted of attacking the woman during this incident, which was characterized by a violent and sustained assault. As part of his sentencing, he received a term of 32 months in prison. Additionally, the court imposed an indefinite restraining order that prohibits Dean from contacting or communicating with the victim in any way, ensuring her safety moving forward.
Detective Inspector Steve O’Neill provided a statement emphasizing the severity of the attack. He described the assault as both violent and prolonged, noting that the victim was left extremely distressed and sustained head injuries that required hospital treatment. The detective inspector highlighted the importance of CCTV footage, which captured the attack in detail and played a crucial role in securing Dean’s conviction.
Inspector O’Neill also commended the bravery of the victim, who supported the prosecution despite initial resistance from Dean, who initially pleaded not guilty. The inspector expressed hope that Dean’s incarceration and the restraining order would help the victim recover from the trauma inflicted upon her. He acknowledged the profound impact such serious crimes have on victims and expressed optimism that, over time, she will be able to move forward with her life.
Furthermore, the inspector pointed out that Dean’s guilty plea was a late acknowledgment of his wrongdoing, but it also reflected the strength of the prosecution’s case against him. The case underscores the importance of justice and the role of evidence in securing convictions in cases of violent crime.
