MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILD AND TEENAGER
A man who “groomed and manipulated” his victims has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison for sexual offences against a child and a teenager.Thomas Brewer, aged 60 and residing on Whitefield Avenue in the Speedwell area of Bristol, was convicted of eight offences at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday, March 5.
The verdict followed a trial held in January, where a jury returned a unanimous decision of guilt.
The charges against Brewer include four counts of non-penetrative sexual activity with a child, two counts of encouraging a child to engage in sexual acts, and two counts of sexual assault targeting a female victim.
Additionally, Brewer is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which remains in effect indefinitely.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Brewer exploited his position of trust and repeatedly assaulted his victims through physical touching.
His youngest victim was assaulted over a span of around six months, while another victim was assaulted during a social event.
Law enforcement officers maintained communication with both complainants throughout the investigation and have provided options for support services.
One of the victims, who was under 16 at the time of the offences, delivered a statement read out in court, stating: “I hate Tom for what he did to me and the ongoing impact of it.
This happening has made me grow up, and maybe quicker than I should have.
“I am not going to let this ruin my life.
I have accepted it and can finally move forwards now.” The other victim, who was under 18 when the offences occurred, expressed her feelings in a statement, saying: “You show no remorse for your actions and it’s sickening.
I really hope one day you realise what you did and how disgusting it is.
The nightmares and social anxiety I get to this day are caused by you, but I want you to know you’ve not won and never will.”
